Choosing a Memory Foam Mattress Pad
64Memory Foam Options and Differences
There are a lot more options now when it comes to memory foam than there were 10 years ago. The word memory foam has taken on a kind of strange meaning which adds to the confusion. Memory foam now is used to describe any type of mattress that bends to your body shape and then retakes an original form.
The reason these types of beds and memory foam mattress pad are so popular is because they reduce pressure points by conforming to your body. This gives each person a more unique sleeping experience rather than a 1 mattress fits all kind of thing.
What Are My Choices?
When it comes to the actual foam there are a few things that will define its comfort. Each of these will then relate to how you plan to use the mattress pad.
Density - This is how firm the mattress actually is and how responsive it is to body heat. The more material there is to heat by your body the longer it takes to conform to your shape. In other words the more dense, the firmer it will remain. If you choose low density your body heat will warm up the bad quite a bit making it more form fitting or less firm.
Thickness - Memory foam mattress pads are available in a few different thicknesses, you can get them from 2 inches thick to 4 inches thick. The more you want to change the current comfort level of your bed the thicker a pad you will need.

What are the differences in Memory Foam?
Weight - This is determined by the amount of chemicals used to create the foam in the first place. the more it weighs the more 'elastic' it can be.
ILD - This is what determines how hard or soft the material is. The units are given in lbs and this refers to the amount of lbs it takes to reach a 25% dent in the material.
Resilience - This is a measure of how long the foam will last, the higher the HR rating the better as this means the foam can 'retain' its original position again and again.
Tensile - Basically how far the foam can be stretching without tearing. This measure is usually irrelevant because the memory foam is rarely if ever stretched.

How to choose a memory foam to meet my needs.
Here are some things you should look for when buying;
My memory foam mattress pad is 4 inches thick and has a relatively high PR, this is because I am a big guy and the 4 inches adds better support than a thinner one, combined with the high PR it should be able to handle my body a bunch of times over.
For anyone looking at memory foam consider, how much you weigh, how long you sleep on any given night and whether you need more or less support than the average person.
Larger ILD for more firm mattresses, while lower ILD for softer ones.
Higher Resilience if you get in and out of bed a lot during the day or night whether to go to the bathroom or attend to the little ones.
Natural Latex Foam
Latex Foam is the Natural Foam
Believe it or not latex foam mattress and pads can actually be considered 'organic' because they use such small amounts of foreign chemicals to create. The latex has more resilience so as far as tangible differences go, latex is much more springy than memory foam. The problem with springy is that is will not push back or hold a firm position like the memory foam will.
Serta Memory Foam Mattress Pad
A Serta memory foam mattress conforms to the shape of your body and thus evenly spreads the pressure to your entire body. A typically normal mattress only sinks at the heavier points of your body, which leads to strains and aches. Most people need plenty of sleep, so it would make more sense to have a better bed to sleep on. Why be uncomfortable while sleeping.
A Serta memory foam mattress is very comfortable, which means you are not tossing and turning all night long. You may find a regular mattress to be comfortable but it may not be properly supporting your back while you sleep. Your bed does not need to be hard and firm to support your back.
Memory Foam Mattress Pads Reviews
Memory foam mattress pads are the talk of the bedding industry because there is no other sleeping surface that responds to the weight of your body. If you do not want the entire mattress then you can add a topper to your current bed, which will still improve the overall quality of your sleep.
It is easy to get confused surrounding all the hype and promotions concerning memory foam mattress pads. An important question to ask is do they actually work as advertised. It works the best when it is layered over a firm mattress since it is too soft to act as the only thing you sleep on. So it is best used on top of existing bedding.
One of the ways that memory foam mattress pads are different is that the foam cells deform when compressed is that the air pressure is spread to adjoining cells because it is an open cell material, which means the cells have holes in them. Normal foam springs back to its original shape.
